The National Biodiversity Data Centre has just published the first three guides in it’s new series, ‘Ireland’s Butterfly Series’.
The first three guides are habitat management for the Marsh Fritillary, Small Blue and the Small Heath. Each guide also details a basic introduction to the species and threats to each one. The guides are aimed at all landowners who are willing to change their management to support the species. The actions range from livestock management, scrub management and to altering mowing to meet the requirements of each species throughout their life cycle. Most if not all the actions contained within the guides can be completed at no cost to the landowner and will greatly benefit the species.
There is something everyone can do to help, by either submitting records to help us better understand how butterflies are doing or by changing land management to help protect them.
