National Heritage Week is a celebration of Ireland’s rich natural and cultural heritage. Ireland’s biodiversity is also heritage, a heritage that over the centuries has been shaped by a combination of natural and human forces. Increasingly these human forces are overwhelming the natural processes, creating a landscape that leaves less space for wildlife and consequently results in a less diverse environment. To highlight the importance of Ireland’s biodiversity, and to make a statement that you want it to be conserved now and for future generations, for National Heritage Week running from the 19th to the 27th of August we are asking everyone to post images of Ireland’s wonderful biodiversity. If you know it, let everyone know the species you are showing your gratitude for and where you seen it, using the hashtag #BiodiversityisHeritage #HeritageWeek.
