The winners of the National Biodiversity Data Centre’s inaugural Encounters with Biodiversity photo-story competition have been announced. This novel competition was held to portray aspects of Ireland’s biodiversity and to provide a platform for photographers and naturalists to highlight their special interest. Entrants had to submit an original photograph and accompanying text to describe an encounter they had with an aspect of Ireland’s biodiversity.
The winning entries were:
1st – Stag in the Woods by Richard Creagh
2nd – A Midnight Embrace by Conan McDonnell
3rd – Pink Grasshopper by Chris Connolly
U18 category:
1st – Catch of the day by Cathal Forkan
2nd – Dragonfly by Billy McKee
3rd – Small Copper Butterfly by Adam Middleton
